Celebrating Citizenship Week October 10-13th

October 4, 2017

Every year, the ICC marks Canadian Citizenship Week — a special opportunity to reflect on the rights and responsibilities of Canadian citizenship — by celebrating new citizens with our signature community citizenship ceremonies.

This fall, from October 10 – 13th, we will co-host 6 community citizenship ceremonies with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, across the country over 4 days as part of our Building Citizenship program. These special citizenship ceremonies will take us from to Vancouver to Hamilton to celebrate 270 new Canadian citizens.

Continuing our tradition of welcoming new citizens in warm and iconic public spaces, we will be in Edmonton at the Francis Winspear Centre for Music for our opening event of Citizenship Week, followed by a ceremony at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario. Our week of reflection on active citizenship and inclusion will close with a community citizenship ceremony at the Ontario Science Centre in North York with our Don Valley Volunteer Committee. Volunteer Committees in Ottawa and Peel will round out our week of celebration with two more volunteer-led community citizenship ceremonies.

As we move into 2018, we hope to create more conversations around what it means to be Canadian, and encourage new citizens to own our collective culture and spaces.
